Saving Hope Sneak Peek Video

Happy Thursday my friends! NBC?s new summer hit show Saving Hope is brand new tonight and I have a sneak peek video that will for sure get you pumped for it. If you haven?t seen the new NBC show Saving Hope then I strongly suggest you check it out. It is an amazing drama that will no doubt fill that void of good TV you might be missing during this summer season. The premiere last week was amazing and from what I can tell tonight?s show is going to be even better. I realize I can?t make that kind of statement without a little back up, which is why I have a fabulous little sneak peek video of the episode tonight. In the clip you will see Alex unravel a medical mystery all while dealing with the arrival of Charlie?s ex-wife who let me just say likes to stick her nose where it doesn?t belong. Wowza that certainly got me ready to watch Saving Hope, which is exactly what I will be doing at 9PM EST tonight. This is the kind of good summer show that will keep my TV addiction under control until the fall season starts. In case [...]

Usher Had Plans To Record With Amy Winehouse

'It could have been one of the most incredible records ever,' he says of his attempt to record with Winehouse.
By Gil Kaufman, with additional reporting by Christina Garibaldi

<P>It's one of the great R&B duets that never was. While <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> was working on his seventh studio album, <a href="/news/articles/1685178/usher-looking-4-myself.jhtml"><I>Looking 4 Myself</I></a>&#8232;, he was determined to take fans on a musical journey and <a href="/news/articles/1686990/usher-looking-4-myself-evolution.jhtml">experiment with sounds</a>&#8232; he'd never explored before.</P><P>So, in addition to teaming up with Diplo for the seductive lead single, <a href="/news/articles/1685264/usher-climax.jhtml">"Climax,"</a>&#8232;, as well as EDM giants Swedish House Mafia, Usher said he sought out producer Salaam Remi because he was very interested in doing a song with Remi protege, <a href="/news/articles/1667799/amy-winehouse-dead.jhtml">Amy Winehouse</a>,&#8232; before the singer died unexpectedly died at age 27 in July 2011. "We met and we talked about it for a moment when I saw her," Usher said of a brief sit-down with the troubled crooner to discuss the potential soul summit.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Usher Had Plans To Record With Amy Winehouse" id="vid:789773.id:1686957" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"There was a few conversations that took place, but we never quite made it to it ... I would have loved it." One of those talks occurred while the unlikely duo were shopping at the ritzy London department store Selfridges. "I was shopping and she was doing some private shopping and she came out and we kind of crossed each other's [paths] and, [I was like] 'Is that Amy Winehouse?' ... And before you know it we talked and exchanged information and I invited her to a show ... and she didn't come."</P><P>Winehouse was out of the country at the time and sent a relative to the gig in her stead, but that missed connection has stuck with Usher to this day. "It could have been one of the most incredible records ever," he said. "A voice like that comes once in a lifetime."</P><P>Usher still wanted to get in the studio with Remi, and though it was a hard time for the producer, the pair met in New York and worked it out. "The style and the sound that we worked, I felt would definitely compliment what he does as a producer and what I have to offer."</P><P>The story that the two explored on "Sins of My Father" was a new one for Usher, who had never spoken about his feelings for his dad in song before. Justin Bieber, The Wanted Fans Camp Out In Rain For Friday Shows

'He's the only person I'd sleep on the ground for,' one Belieber tells MTV News two days before 'Today' show concert.

NEW YORK — A little rain couldn't stop die-hard Beliebers and fans of the Wanted from camping out to snag front-row spots for their fave acts.

On Wednesday afternoon (June 13), approximately 50 Justin Bieber admirers staked out territory outside Rockefeller Center, gearing up for Bieber's 'Today' show performance — two days from now, on Friday morning. Meanwhile, several blocks away, a handful of fans also laid out their sleeping bags outside the Best Buy Theater in anticipation of the Wanted's ticketed Friday night show.

MTV News caught up with fans today, they told us a little rain wouldn't hurt because they came well prepared with sleeping bags, umbrellas and jackets, including a pair of sisters from New Jersey were third in the line for Biebs.

"We came to the 'Today' show last November, but we were way, way in the back, so we got out front this time," Hayley, 17, said. "And we're going to see him this time because he's amazing and beautiful."

Still, the continuous rain and cloudy weather was making it less than ideal for camping out on the New York City pavement. "The rain has been a big issue because I really don't like getting my hair wet, honestly, but everybody here has been pretty good," she added. "We just have umbrellas, because we're not allowed to have tents."

When it comes to using the bathrooms, the fans were getting creative. "We use the bathroom in the parking garage where our car is," Hayley noted. "We don't really have anywhere else to go, so we go wherever we can get in."

Yasmin, 13, was using Twitter to pass the time ... and keep constant updates on Justin. "While we're waiting for Justin, we're basically on Twitter, reading his tweets and everything." A valuable way to pass the time, considering Bieber tweeted just today that he'll be bringing along a special guest for his NBC appearance.

Another way fans were passing the time was to make friends with their fellow fans.

"All the Beliebers are here, it's kind of like one giant party in the street, so it's been good," Amanda, 15, said."When he comes out onstage, it's just going to hit us and he's just going to be right there, like, practically singing to us," she gushed. "He's my idol; he's the only person I'd sleep on the ground for, for two nights."

Meanwhile, a few blocks away at Times Square's Best Buy Theater, about half a dozen Wanted fans from Staten Island (who already had tickets) waited with coloring books, in hopes of making sure they'd be in the front row. The Wanted fans seemed a bit luckier than Bieber fans in that they had an awning to camp out under. "The rain it's been all right. We've managed, we have umbrellas, sleeping bags, coats, everything, so it's been pretty OK," Melissa, 24, said.

"It's worth it because the energy they provide onstage is worth being front row, I don't know how to describe it, it's a different feeling than if you were in the back," Melissa further explained.

When asked how she'd feel when the guys finally take to the stage Friday night, she smiled, "We'll feel relief. Relief and excitement."

Would you camp out in the rain to see your favorite singer? Tell us in the comments!

Lady Gaga's Indonesian Flash Mob Made Her 'Cry So Hard'

'You are the best fans,' Gaga tweets after fans pay tribute following cancellation of her Jakarta concert.
By James Montgomery

<P>Late last month, <a href=http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml>Lady Gaga</a> was forced to cancel her <a href="/news/articles/1685874/lady-gaga-indonesian-concert.jhtml">June 3 concert in Jakarta, Indonesia</a>, after protests from Islamic groups led to national police denying her a permit for the show. But now, a different group of Indonesians has taken to the street, this time to show their support for the Mother Monster. And it's left Gaga in tears.</P><P>In a show of solidarity and support, 91 of Gaga's biggest, bravest fans &#8212; dubbed the Indonesian Little Monsters &#8212; gathered at Jakarta's Ex Plaza Indonesia shopping center for a flash-mob tribute to the singer. They were dressed to the nines in their Gaga finest, breaking into a choreographed dance number while surprised shoppers looked on &#8212; and filmed the entire routine on their camera phones.</P><P>In the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWqe6EozGro" target="_blank">10-minute video</a>, uploaded on Saturday, the group grooves to Gaga hits like "Telephone," "Bad Romance" and "Judas" before triumphantly embracing at the performance's end. And as if their routine didn't serve as a loud enough rebuke against the nation's conservative Islamic groups, the Indonesian Monsters end the clip with a message to both those groups and to Gaga herself, writing:</P><P>"Tons of rejection and hatred are everywhere. But still, we will always [get] your back. We respect your decision [to cancel] BTW Ball, and it doesn't change how much we love you. We love you, Mother Monster, 'til the end."</P><P>Understandably, Gaga was moved by the outpouring of support, posting the video on her Twitter account, along with a <a href="https://twitter.com/ladygaga/status/209557682728878080" target="_blank">response</a> to her Indonesian Monsters.</P><P>"This made me cry so hard," Gaga wrote. Justin Bieber Waiting On Basketball Film Script, Mark Wahlberg Says

'I want to send it to them once it's perfect,' Wahlberg tells MTV News about long-in-the-works project.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> might be ready to start "hooping" for his long-in-the-works <a href="/news/articles/1676492/mark-wahlberg-justin-bieber-basketball-movie.jhtml">basketball film with Mark Wahlberg</a>, but the movie star explains that no one will get on set until the script is just right.</P><P>"The Bieber movie? I saw 115 pages," Wahlberg explained to MTV News last weekend. "Just waiting &#8212; I want to send it to them once it's perfect."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Mark Wahlberg Updates Justin Bieber Basketball Film" id="vid:789305" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>It seems that Bieber's team is also waiting for the script to be finalized. "I sent [Bieber's manager] Scooter [Braun] a text ... The last time I talked to him, I said, 'Hey, I need Justin to do me a favor.' He goes, 'Not without the script.' So, it's a process. Cutting those albums and doing those videos is easy, building a movie career is a difficult thing."</P><P><a href="/news/articles/1665220/justin-bieber-mark-wahlberg-movie.jhtml">Wahlberg previously told us</a> the film would be in the vein of the Martin Scorsese-directed "The Color of Money," starring Tom Cruise and Paul Newman, with Bieber playing the rookie to Wahlberg's mentor character. And pool, in this case, has been replaced with basketball. Little else is known about the plot. "I'm still working on this movie with Mark Wahlberg," Bieber told us in May. "I don't know what the deal is. Turns out they're rewriting the script or something, trying to make it fit better and stuff.</P><P>"It's really cool," he added. "Hopefully, I'll be able to do that as well soon. So, I'll be hooping, I got to get back in the gym. I haven't played basketball in a while. I did a little charity basketball game at Shaq's house for Pencils of Promise. We did a little charity basketball game, and I won."</P><P>Before Bieber begins his acting career, he has lots of music-related business to handle. He will release his highly anticipated new album, <a href="/news/articles/1686793/justin-bieber-believe-album.jhtml"><i>Believe</i></a>, on June 19 and will embark on a <a href="/news/articles/1686358/justin-bieber-believe-tour.jhtml">sold-out tour this fall</a>.</p>

Usher's Looking 4 Myself: The Reviews Are In!

Critics are mostly positive about the new release, with one calling it, 'at its best, a truly next-level soul album.'

Given the incredibly fast-paced, blink-and-you-miss-it, flash-in-the-pan, hit-singles-or-bust state of the music industry these days, career longevity is almost as difficult for an artist to achieve as fame and recognition itself. R&B superstar Usher is clearly an exception, as Tuesday (June 12) marks the release of the seventh studio album in his 18-year career. Usher has said that Looking 4 Myself represents an "evolution" for him in several ways, and judging from the positive reviews, critics seem to agree. Without further ado, let's take a tour through the Looking 4 Myself reviews.

The Story of "Myself"
"To the list of people who've had mind-altering experiences at Coachella, you can add Usher. In April he was a surprise guest at the music festival, and he says his seventh album, Looking 4 Myself, was inspired by the eclectic acts he saw there, including Euro-disco champs Swedish House Mafia (who produced two songs for L4M) and Aussie synth-rockers Empire of the Sun (who guest on the title track). Even Usher's new look off stage — the Buddy Holly glasses, the facial scruff — suggests that he's warming to indie music. Did he go into Coachella as a Top 40 guy and come out a hipster? Well, he's not exactly taking a stand against party-rock anthems here. Looking 4 Myself still sounds like the Usher you know; it's just a little more interesting than his usual onslaught of skull-pounding beats and silk-sheets ballads." — Melissa Maerz, Entertainment Weekly

The EDM Influence
"In the interviews surrounding the release of Usher's seventh album, Looking 4 Myself, the singer discussed the wide variety of music that influenced the set, ranging from electronic dance music to folk-rockers Mumford & Sons. And while there's a prominent EDM sound on many of the tracks (folk, not so much), the sound has fused seamlessly with R&B, making Looking 4 Myself, at its best, a truly next-level soul album. One that has the warm, organic feel of R&B and deep pop hooks, but also the pulsating low-end and shimmering keyboard flourishes of EDM." — Jem Aswad, Billboard.com

Sonorous Surprises
"A number of surprises lurk within, though. 'Twisted' is the most disruptive track on the album, and proves that production duo the Neptunes are still able to time-travel back from the future to offer another dose of innovation. The rhythm is ridiculous, the kind that the Virginia team of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo are experts at creating. Jim Jonsin's catchy rhythm on 'Lemme See' finds its groove when Rick Ross parks his Lamborghini on the track's lawn for a cameo. (Pharrell, by contrast, raps of rolling on another kind of vehicle, '20 of us on Vespas and mopeds,' cruising the city and offering a girl a gift of white lipstick.) The biggest outlier on Looking 4 Myself is Usher's collaboration with Australian progressive electronic group Empire of the Sun on the title track. The song, which features Empire lead singer Luke Steele, is a new wave ditty with a beat that wouldn't sound out of place on a Hall & Oates or later-period Steely Dan record." — Randall Roberts, Los Angeles Times

The Final Word
"Looking 4 Myself covers a lot of ground, from the modernized, shouting soul of 'Twisted' to the jaunty new wave of the surprising title track, a catchy collaboration with Luke Steele of the Of Montreal-esque synth-pop band Empire of the Sun. Not all of it works, but none of it is unpleasant, either, something that couldn't be said of the previous releases from the single-and-on-the-prowl phase of Usher's career. Unlike Raymond or Versus, with their dutiful adherence to Top 40 templates, a sense of freedom and exploration carries through Looking 4 Myself that makes it feel unique from any other Usher album. Although few of these songs rank among his best, it's a pleasure to hear a great performer branch out, following whims and taking risks as he tests new ways to work his voice." — Evan Rytlewski, The A.V. Club

Rick Ross And Usher's 'Touch 'N You' Is For 'The Ladies'

Rozay and Usher talk to MTV News about the 'sexy' track from their video set in Atlanta.
By Rob Markman, with reporting by FLX

<P>God Forgives, but <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/ross__rick__rap_/artist.jhtml">Rick Ross</a> does not. Still, as apathetic as the Bawse may portray himself, Rozay has a sweet spot when it comes to the ladies. So on <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/05/15/rick-ross-usher-touch-n-you-god-forgives-i-dont/">"Touch 'N You,"</a> the new big money single off of Ross' upcoming <i>God Forgives, I Don't,</i> the Maybach CEO and guest star <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher Raymond</a> show a little love to the hunnies.</P><P>"It's a real sexy record. I wanted to make sure the ladies knew that they could be a part of this movement, a part of this project," Rick Ross told MTV News on Thursday (May 24) from the "Touch 'N You" video set in Atlanta. "I would never let the ladies down even if it's a real hard album or however it may be titled."</P><P><center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:785212/cp~vid%3D785212" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" flashVars="autoPlay=true&sid=MTV_Videos" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center></P><P>The upcoming clip is directed by Chris Robinson (Lil Wayne "How to Love," Jay-Z "Roc Boys") and will of course co-star Usher. "It's an incredible one, Chris once again comes together making an incredible video," Usher told us. "It is a conceptual video depicting the world that Rozay is in. My participation is just to show up and be cool."</P><P>Cool is an understatement when it comes to Usher, who is riding high off of his #1 <i>Billboard</i> Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Song <a href="/news/articles/1685264/usher-climax.jhtml">"Climax."</a> Ross is no stranger to love songs either; he's given the ladies plenty to swoon over on singles like 2008's "Here I Am" and 2010's "Aston Martin Music," but having Ush on a track adds a certain appeal.</P><P>The combination of Raymond's vocals and the sexy "Touch 'N You" video should be just enough to help Rozay properly put his feelings in perspective. Sometimes after long studio sessions with Meek Mill, Wale and the rest of his MMG compadres, the Bawse just needs to get away, and that's what he aims to capture in the clip. "It's basically like a situation where life gets so hectic sometimes you just want to get away with that special female and that's what this was based off," he said.</P><P><i>What do you think of Rick Ross and Usher's "Touch 'N You"? Lets us know in the comments!</i></p>

Supreme Court Throws Out "Birther" Lawsuit

Somewhere, Donald Trump is so pissed … and quickly moving on to think up ways he can zing Miss Pennsylvania Sheena Monnin on the morning show circuit.

The U.S. Supreme Court announced it will not hear an appeal of a lawsuit by plaintiffs - including Buena Park, Calif., Pastor Wiley Drake - claiming that Barack Obama is not a natural-born citizen and so cannot legitimately hold the presidency.

The nation's highest court threw out the case, hopefully the last of its kind.

Barack Obama at the UN

The Prez scores a rare win ... that he'd already "won" several times.

Santa Ana-based U.S. District Judge David Carter as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit had previously ruled that the plaintiffs did not have legal standing.

Putting the matter to rest, the Supreme Court upheld that ruling.

Probably because Obama was born in Hawaii … imagine that.

More interestingly and legitimately, a report recently suggested Obama may have once lied about being born in Kenya to boost his literary resume.

Movie Awards Host Russell Brand Tackles Bieber, Katy Perry, Fassbender's Penis

'The last time I did an MTV awards show, I did end up marrying someone that was there,' Brand jokes in opening monologue.
By Ryan J. Downey

<P><b>UNIVERSAL CITY, California</b> &#8212; " 'Twilight'! 'Hunger Games'! These words generate goodwill."</P><P>Indeed they do, Mr. Brand! Proving he knows the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2012/">MTV Movie Awards</a> audience well, this year's host frequently retreated into the phrases "Twilight!" and "Hunger Games!" to liven up the audience, but he didn't need to. His opening monologue simply <i>killed</i> as the motormouthed English comedian launched into a rapid-fire set playfully attacking a wide variety of targets including Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Charlie Sheen, John Travolta, MTV, his own short-lived "celebrity marriage" to Katy Perry and ... Michael Fassbender's penis.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Welcome To The 2012 MTV Movie Awards!" id="vid:787215.id:1686010" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"Tonight is an important ceremony because according to the Mayans, the world will end in December this year," he pointed out. "If Earth hurtles into the sun and humanity is destroyed, we will all say as one: 'We had the MTV Movie Awards 2012 and it was worth it!' But let's not worry about the impending doom of our planet now. We have vital issues to discuss. One, Justin Bieber beat up a paparazzi. Well done, Justin!"</P><P>Brand called Bieber "so pretty" that "even if he was attacking me, I think I would do a little orgasm." He imagined that even if he has to go to jail, that "as the horror of incarceration closes in on him and the nightly gang beatings in the shower tangle that beautiful body," some part of him will think, 'Hey, at least I got away from them bloody screaming girls!' "</P><P>Brand also pointed out that while it may be hypocritical of him to make fun of someone for tangling with the paps, "wait till you hear what I've got to say about short-lived celebrity marriages!"</P><P>Newly minted couple Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (or "<i>Can</i>-Ye," as he repeatedly pronounced it) were his next target. "I admire Kanye a lot. His drunken stage invasion at the last MTV award show I hosted took a lot of pressure off me, like watching someone else get in trouble at school."</P><P>Brand said Kim took a lot of pressure off of him with her "world record quick marriage. Thanks Kim!" He then wished openly that the pair would release a sex tape, which earned hoots and cheers from the crowd. "I think of Kim Kardashian as the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/86791/personmain.jhtml">Stanley Kubrick</a> of sex tapes. They're always brilliant but he only does one a decade." He did have some specific performance advice for West: "Don't drink before the sex tape. Learn the lessons of the VMAs!"</P><P>Since Kanye wasn't at the Movie Awards on Sunday, Brand turned to Charlie Sheen to distract the audience with crazy antics should he start to say anything that might endanger his green card. "I've taped a bottle of Hennessey and a gram of coke under your chair. In case I start going crazy, just nick it and do a couple of lines. Release the 'tiger blood' hero!"</P><P>Then it was Fassbender's turn. "I think Fassbender should be roundly condemned for profiting from sex addiction," he said of the "Shame" star. "I did literally go to school with Michael Fassbender and I'm embarrassed to admit that at the time I didn't notice his huge, engorged talent as I was too busy staring at his massive co--. I deliberately removed all erotic content from this monologue 'cause he's only there in the second row and if I get him too aroused, I may lose an eye. Fassbender's pink pipe of acting wonder! That's a good skill for an X-Man." Fassbender laughed along during the whole bit.</P><P>"Hunger Games! Twilight!" These crowd inciting phrases continued to surface.</P><P>" 'Hunger Games' is a story about a dystopia where poor people are humiliated for the amusement of an elite class. That will obviously never happen! Do stay tuned after the show for the new season of 'Teen Mom,' where pregnant women are laughed at for money!"</P><P>Brand took a few minutes to shill for his upcoming "Rock of Ages," but managed to keep the below-the-belt theme going by talking about his costar Alec Baldwin, "a man so macho he actually has hair on the shaft of his penis." He called the movie the best musical since "Grease" and said to honor that movie, he prepared for the Movie Awards by giving John Travolta a massage. "He needed it, man. He was so stiff, I'm telling ya!"</P><P>The monologue wrapped with the animated and smiling host taking a few shots at himself. "The last time I did an MTV awards show, I did end up marrying someone that was there. So tonight I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for my next wife. ..."</P><P>"<i>Fassbender!</i> I'm going to go get some massage oil off Travolta. Michael, meet me in my dressing room."</P><P><b>The 2012 <a href="http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2012/">MTV Movie Awards</a> are officially under way! Britney Spears, Demi Lovato Walk Off During 'X Factor' Audition

Sources say judges 'didn't want to waste their time' with lousy contestant in Kansas City.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>One "X Factor" contestant learned what happens when you attempt to pull a fast one on the judges. Over the weekend, while <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lovato__demi/artist.jhtml">Demi Lovato</a>, L.A. Reid and seat-filling judge Louis Walsh (who was assisting an ill Simon Cowell) were in Kansas City, Missouri they walked out on one contestant who attempted to audition with his back to the judges.</P><P>According to <a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20602844,00.html" target="_blank">People.com</a> sources, not only did the contestant audition with his back to the panel, but he also wasn't all that talented of a singer, adding insult to injury. "It was really awkward," an eyewitness told the site of the kooky audition. "You could tell the judges were done. I don't think they had a choice. They didn't want to waste their time."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Britney Spears Explains Why She Wanted To Be A Part Of 'X Factor'" id="vid:769620" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Another onlooker added that the male contestant didn't leave the judges much of an option given his lack of talent. "He was one of the worst singers and had a bad attitude ... [The judges] all hated it and walked off," the source said. Additionally, he had no idea they had walked out since his back was to them for his entire performance.</P><P>Everyone except Britney eventually made their way back to the judges' table to hear the last contestant. Spears' absence was met with the audience chanting, "Where's Britney?" However, she was only gone for a short time, as she returned later on for another batch of contestants.</P><P>Spears and Lovato made their debut as <a href="/news/articles/1685844/britney-spears-x-factor-judging.jhtml">"X Factor" judges in late May</a>, weeks after Cowell and Reid appeared at the <a href="/news/articles/1685206/britney-spears-x-factor-concept.jhtml">Fox upfront</a> alongside the singers to announce them as additions to the show. "Just really being able to be there and inspire the other contestants ... they're so young and they're trying to fulfill their dreams," Spears said at the event. "It's just a whole beautiful concept. It's just really cool."</P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/?fid=1617615"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/s/spotted/banner/spotted.jpg"></a></p>

James Franco Crowns Kristen Stewart 'Warrior Queen'

Oscar-nominated actor compares 'Twilight' star to her 'Snow White' character in a Huffington Post article.
By Fallon Prinzivalli, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Kristen Stewart in ?Snow White and the Huntsman?
Photo: Universal

If you looked up "jack of all trades" in the dictionary, we're pretty sure you'd find a picture of James Franco. His credits include actor, author, producer, director, artist, student, teacher — we'd go on, but we think you get the picture.

He's recently become a contributor to The Huffington Post, and his latest article is a review of "Snow White and the Huntsman" that successfully compares Kristen Stewart to her edgy character.

"['Snow White'] could also be said to parallel Stewart's rise to stardom," Franco writes. "Some might argue that Stewart — or any young upstart buoyed by the surge of a successful franchise, album, or Internet meme — is just as unjustly charmed. Some could say she had a lucky break when she was cast in 'Twilight' and then rose to international stardom based less on her own skills than on the success of the project. But, whereas 'Snow White' would more than likely be inarticulate, diseased and frail after being confined in a tower for 10 years, Kristen Stewart landed 'Twilight' after years of working with some of the best directors in the business (David Fincher, Sean Penn). She actually does deserve the crown."

Franco's critique recognizes the challenge filmmakers face when turning a fairy tale into a live-action film instead of simply animating it. He notes that Peter Jackson revolutionized the film industry with "Lord of the Rings," greatly enhancing the technology aspect of fantasy stories. But whereas "Puss in Boots" can skim emotional development by falling in love in seconds, Stewart must prove to an audience that her romantic entanglements are real.

Franco then relates Snow White's epic battle against Charlize Theron's Evil Queen as Stewart's fight for recognition among Hollywood's honored elite, believing Stewart deserves more credit than she's given.

"The images of Snow White as a leader of immense strength, charging on horseback across the beach at the head of an army, has less to do with her character and more to do with the actress who plays her," Franco pens. "Stewart has braved more scrutiny of her private life than most presidents. She has taken big career risks by doing films like 'Welcome to the Rileys,' 'The Runaways' and 'On the Road' (nudity, I hear). She has worked her ass off. Whatever Snow White may be, Kristen is a warrior queen. Give her the crown."

This isn't the first time Franco divulged his thoughts on one of Stewart's projects. He frequently mentioned wanting to be involved in "Twilight" on late-night talk shows and even told Jimmy Kimmel he wanted to sing a song with Robert Pattinson or helm a skit with the cast for his Academy Award hosting debut. When MTV News caught up with the actor at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival, he had read the first three books and saw the first three films, prompting us to ask him about his thoughts on the series he deemed "fascinating."

"[Along with the books, the] movies are interesting also because they've really become part of the whole 'Twilight' phenomenon, and it's really hard to extricate those actors from the reading experience or just the phenomenon of 'Twilight' now," he said. "They've become a part of it to the point that the movies are almost commenting on themselves. There will be a scene where the go-to guys, Taylor and Rob, are in the tent, it's almost like a 'Brokeback Mountain' scene, where the two guys are talking in a tent and the girl is asleep, and they're having, like, this romantic moment almost through her, in a way. One of them says, 'Well, I'm hotter than you,' and it's almost like they're winking at the fans, like to the Team Jacob or the Team Edwards."

Check out everything we've got on "Snow White and the Huntsman."

<P>It's not exactly <a href="/news/articles/1663946/kesha-new-album.jhtml">"balls-out irreverent rock and roll"</a> &#8212; quite the opposite, in fact &#8212; but with one 40-second snippet, Ke$ha is serving notice that her new album is most definitely going to be a departure.</P><P>On Wednesday (June 6), frequent Ke$h collaborator Dr. Luke gave fans <a href="http://soundcloud.com/drluke/snippet-super" target="_blank">a sneak peek</a> at a song from her long-in-the-works new album, an all-too-brief preview that features her cooing about a lover's prowess &#8212; "When you take my body to the stars/ I believe it/ Boy, this love is supernatural/ Can you feel it?" over a bed of shimmering synths and knotty bass that gradually builds to a twisting, rapidly contrasting electronic break.</P><P><iframe width="100%" height="166" scrolling="no" frameborder="no" src="http://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F48805816&amp;auto_play=false&amp;show_artwork=true&amp;color=ff7700"></iframe></P><P>It's the kind of high-gloss production she largely avoided on her breakthrough <a href="/news/articles/1629566/keha-partying-pop-genius-weve-all-been-waiting.jhtml"><i>Animal</i></a> album, and while we certainly can't figure out how the track fits in with her <i>other</i> collaborations (she's reportedly worked with everyone from <a href="/news/articles/1685827/kesha-flaming-lips-tattoo.jhtml">Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne</a> to Iggy Pop on the still-untitled new album), the new track certainly showcases her maturation. And thanks to Ke$h herself, at least we know what the new track is about: having sex with ghosts.</P><P>Yes, just hours after Dr. Luke leaked the snippet, Ke$ha took to her Twitter account to mock-chastise her producer, <a href="https://twitter.com/keshasuxx/status/210428157554196480" target="_blank">writing</a>: "You leaked my song about me having sexy time with a ghost, @thedoctorluke," she wrote. "Now everyone knows I get it on with ghosts!"</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Ke$ha Says New Album Will Be ' Balls-Out, Irreverent Rock'" id="vid: 652875" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Somehow, that doesn't surprise us. There's still no firm release date for Ke$ha's new album, which she began working on in February. But, from the sound of one snippet, at least, it sounds like things are progressing quickly. And, apparently, ghostly.</P><P><i>What do you think of the sneak peek? Let us know in the comments!</i> </p>
