Sarah Michelle Gellar Covers Health October 2011

Having just premiered the first episode of her new CW show "Ringer," Sarah Michelle Gellar is also featured on the cover of the October 2011 issue of Health magazine.

The 34-year-old actress landed a multi-page spread while chatting about everything from he happiest place to going into labor while in the midst of a Pilates class.

Highlights from Miss Gellar's interview are as follows. For more, be sure to visit Health magazine!

On her happiest place:
?Snuggling with my daughter. Doesn?t matter where. I could be on a subway. I don?t care.?

On being in her best shape:
?Probably before I got pregnant ? I was in really, really good shape. I think when I was doing Buffy I was a little bit thin, actually, because even though I was working out constantly, it was just the time and the age. But I was happy being pregnant, too. I?m not as critical as I used to be about my body.?

On her favorite age:
Oh, right now, for sure. A lot of people say how much more relaxed I am, and it?s because I don?t take things as seriously. You know, it?s not just about work, I have a different priority. And I can let things roll off differently. The only thing that makes me mad is if I lose time with my child.

On going into labor while in a Pilates gym:
?And it was funny, too, because I was getting cranky, and I said to my trainer, ?I?m just cranky today.? She was like, ?Maybe it?s because you?re going to give birth!? And I was like, ?Nah, not yet.? It turned out I was in labor, I didn?t realize.?

On the secret to her happy marriage:
?We communicate. That?s my secret. It?s not a secret, but it?s how I handle all my good relationships, whether they?re male-female or not. If you bottle things up, it explodes on you.?

Brad Pitt Explains Making 'Moneyball' Without Steven Soderbergh

Pitt tells MTV News it was studio's call to tap new director Bennett Miller, who proved to be right man for the sports flick.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Steven Soderbergh had nothing if not grand ambitions for his take on "Moneyball."

"I hope it sets a new standard," he told MTV News in the spring of 2009. "Hopefully, anybody who makes a sports movie from now on is going to have to grapple with this."

Soderbergh's plan for the adaptation of Michael Lewis' best-selling book about the 2002 Oakland A's included re-creating the bowels of Oakland Coliseum and casting ballplayers and coaches to play their big-screen counterparts. The filmmaker also proposed, most ambitiously (and probably a bit bizarrely), the use of an Oracle-like persona, based on the legendary statistician Bill James, presented as an animated character and commissioned with narrating the action.

Grand stuff, no doubt, but also perhaps not the stuff that would lead anyone beyond sports nuts and movie nerds to buy tickets to check it out. And so Sony pulled the plug on the production days before filming was to begin. "Moneyball" appeared to be dead. But at the suggestion of Catherine Keener, Sony tapped Bennett Miller, who had worked with Keener on "Capote," to helm the picture.

Years later, with the movie set to hit theaters on Friday, star Brad Pitt has no doubt Miller was the perfect guy for the job. "I think it is the right way to do 'Moneyball.' Soderbergh was really heading in the same direction, in a sense," Pitt told MTV News.

Sort of. Miller's version certainly doesn't have an animated Bill James. We have a feeling Pitt would have been keen to move forward with Soderbergh, with whom he's worked on the "Ocean's Eleven" films. But it wasn't Pitt's call, and he's no doubt correct that Miller delivered a top-notch sports flick.

"That was a studio call," Pitt said of pushing Soderbergh out. "And, man, we want to get the thing going! We didn't have a choice but to remount it in some way. ... [We] sat down with Bennett and we were just talking the same language. Just love the '70s films. What you'll see about Bennett is he's a very, very bright and thoughtful man and deals with Socratic thought and was a documentarian and all these things that led nicely to the telling of these stories."

Check out everything we've got on "Moneyball."

Nirvana Trash A Hotel One 'Fabulous Yet Wrong' Night

In celebration of Nevermind's 20th anniversary, Kurt Loder recalls a seriously costly interview with the band.
By James Montgomery

Nirvana in 1993
Photo: MTV News

In December 1993, Nirvana sat down with MTV News' Kurt Loder in the frozen expanses of St. Paul, Minnesota — but only on the condition that he also sit down with one of the opening acts on their tour: all-girl Japanese punk act Shonen Knife.

It was, in retrospect, a very Nirvana thing for them to do: Kurt Cobain loved nothing more than lifting some of his favorite bands up into the spotlight. And while Loder would write about the entire back-and-forth that led to the interview in a 2004 feature for MTVNews.com called "Nirvana: Days of Thunder," the story of what happened afterward is just as compelling — mostly because it involved $19,000 in property damages.

So in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's iconic Nevermind album, we sat down with Loder to get the full story of that interview — the last time he'd ever see Cobain before the frontman's suicide in April 1994. And the tale of wanton destruction he told is not only one for the ages, but it reminds us that, no matter how much they've been mythologized in the 20 years since they first burst forth onto the mainstream, Nirvana were very much just a trio of young guys, coping with fame and, sometimes, behaving as young guys often do: very badly.

Nirvana's rise to fame, in their own words.

"Everyone was wondering, 'How will Kurt be? Will he be weird?' He wasn't weird; he was just not hanging around. We had got the guys set up, we had done Shonen Knife first, and then Kurt came in last and sat down. We did the interview, and he was great," Loder said. "He was funny, he knew to be funny, and he's very dry. He was very bohemian. He was almost like a beatnik or something. He hearkened back to that age.

"And that was it. [After the interview], he had to go into his room and, whatever, and so I went upstairs with [drummer] Dave [Grohl] and [bassist] Krist [Novoselic], and they just got really, really drunk. Not that I was trying not to get drunk, but I didn't get as drunk as they did," he continued. "And at one point, Krist just took this picture off the wall and just broke it against the wall, and then they started destroying everything in this room. And it's, like, 4 in the morning, and we hear that hotel security is coming up, so I said, 'Well, it's really time for me to leave.' So I'm leaving, going to the elevator, they're behind me, because they want to go down to my room; they don't want to get in trouble either."

So, of course, Loder let them in (how could he not?), but rather than cool their heels, Grohl and Novoselic only continued smashing things. After all, it was 4 a.m. and, yes, they were still very drunk.

"So we go down to my room, and they do the same thing. They're just breaking chairs and tables, and I was not drunk. ... The band's minder said, 'Well, you must've been doing it too,' and I was like, 'Actually, no,' " Loder laughed. "I was saying, 'Please don't destroy the television set in my room.' It was hard, you know, to use a coat stand [to break a TV set] — you'd figure it would go right through it — but you had to continue doing it before it finally works. They were just out of their minds; it was fabulous in a way and yet wrong. ... Don't do that at home. And the bill the next day was, like, $19,000."

This wasn't Nirvana's only notorious interview: Riki Rachtman recalls the group's cross-dressing appearance on "Headbangers Ball."

For the record, Loder wasn't sure who picked up the tab. But in a lot of ways, he found the whole hotel-trashing incident to be rather refreshing. Because, like much of Nirvana, it recalled a time when rock and roll bands lived for antics like that — a time that, coincidentally, also produced some of the finest rock acts to ever walk the earth.

"I thought they were great. ... They had the thing all great bands had. It was three guys coming together, but when they play together, it's like something bigger than all three of them. It was like this enormous energy center. It's like the Who, although they resembled the Who in no other way, but it was that energy," he said. "And I think they unified people at the time, brought people in that maybe had given up on that kind of music and said, 'Oh, wait a minute, this is really, really good.' They were just great musicians."

Stick with MTV News all week as we reveal the Nevermind You Never Knew, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's definitive album with classic footage, new interviews and much more.

R.E.M. Call It Quits

'We walk away with a great sense of gratitude,' band says Wednesday, bringing to close a 30-year career.
By James Montgomery

R.E.M.

After 30 years, 15 studio albums, dozens of iconic music videos and boundary-pushing tours (and just four core members) — not to mention a sphere of influence that extends from the nascent days of college radio to the buzzy blogosphere of today — R.E.M. are calling it quits.

The band made the announcement Wednesday (September 21) on their website, posting a message that, like most things they did, was almost unyieldingly humble:

"To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band," their statement reads. "We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening."

The band — frontman Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills and drummer Bill Berry (a lineup that wouldn't change for some 17 years) — formed in the fertile music scene surrounding Athens, Georgia, in 1980, and after spending their early days touring the Southern states, they found their first modicum of fame with 1981's "Radio Free Europe," which garnered them critical acclaim and a contract with indie label I.R.S. Records. In 1982, they released their debut EP, Chronic Town, quickly followed by their first full-length, 1983's Murmur, which sold modestly but earned R.E.M. even more praise — particularly Buck's jangly guitar tones and Stipe's cryptic lyrics.

With each subsequent release — '84's Reckoning, '85's Fables of the Reconstruction, — R.E.M.'s fanbase only grew, and they quickly became pillars of the burgeoning "college rock" scene. They'd also continue to flirt with mainstream audiences, and by the time they released the overtly political Document in 1987, they finally consummated that relationship. Spurred by radio hit "The One I Love," it became the first R.E.M. album to go platinum.

They signed with Warner Bros. soon after and finally achieved massive success with 1991's Out of Time, a hugely influential album that featured the breakout hit (and accompanying eye-catching video) "Losing My Religion." It earned R.E.M. seven Grammy nominations, sold more than 12 million copies worldwide and has since become a tentpole of the alt-rock heyday of the 1990s. It also made them one of the hugest rock bands on the planet.

Undaunted, they followed the success of Time with the equally huge Automatic for the People (featuring hits "Everybody Hurts," "Drive" and "Man on the Moon") and the snarling Monster. But on tour for the latter, drummer Berry suffered an onstage aneurysm and Stipe underwent emergency surgery to repair a hernia. Still, they pressed on, re-signing with Warners (for a reported $80 million) and releasing the noticeably darker New Adventures in Hi-Fi, which didn't meet expectations from critics or fans and marked the end of their string of huge commercial successes.

Berry left the band in 1997, but the remaining members of R.E.M. pressed on as a three-piece (with a variety of drummers filling in behind the kit), releasing a string of albums —' '98's Up, '01's Reveal, '04's Around the Sun — that garnered critical acclaim but sold poorly in the U.S. (though it should be noted that worldwide, the band remained a huge commercial force). They wrote the instrumental score to the Andy Kaufman biopic "Man on the Moon" and continued to record, releasing their final album, Collapse Into Now, just this year.

Of course, though their commercial power faded during their later years, R.E.M. remained hugely influential throughout their entire career, thanks to their music, their activism and their unflappable, DIY ethos. They championed causes like environmentalism, voter registration, animal rights and handgun control, and everyone from Sonic Youth and the Replacements to Pavement, Radiohead and Nirvana cited them as huge inspirations. And, in 2007, when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it was Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder who gave their keynote speech and brought it all back to the beginning, joking that he'd listened to Murmur "1,260 times ... even though you can't understand a f---ing thing [Stipe] is saying."

'Dancing With The Stars' Results: Ron Artest First To Go

Lakers star — now known as Metta World Peace — couldn't cut it in week one.

As much as the studio crowd might have been rooting for World Peace, they didn't get it. Basketball star Ron Artest — now known as Metta World Peace — couldn't garner enough votes with his cha-cha and was the first to go on season 13 of "Dancing With the Stars." The field of 12 competing couples was trimmed down to 11, and the L.A. Lakers player and partner Peta Murgatroyd were sent packing.

The first elimination round was action-packed. The professional dancers kicked things off with a sizzling group number set to an amped-up version of Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory," followed by the gradual, performance-interspersed reveal of the couples named to the bottom three: Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke, Metta and Murgatroyd and later Nancy Grace and Tristan MacManus.

The headlining performers for the evening included musician/actor Harry Connick Jr. and self-described party rockers LMFAO. Connick wowed the crowd with his soulful rendition of the titular number from his upcoming Broadway revival, "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever." The expectedly energetic and colorfully dressed LMFAO kept it classy for network TV with a medley of their new single "Sexy and I Know It" and their summer dance club sensation "Party Rock Anthem."

Despite receiving one of the three lowest scores on the first night of competition, Italian TV host and George Clooney ex Elisabetta Canalis and Val Chmerkovskiy were voted through. And the biggest cheers of the night from both the audience and dancers occurred when Chaz Bono and partner Lacey Schwimmer were safe.

Looking at the leader board moving into week two, the couples with the highest scores are Chynna Phillips and Tony Dovolani and J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff. It should also be noted that MTV alum Kristin Cavallari and partner Mark Ballas are not far behind.

Were you sad to see Metta/Ron voted off in week one? Let us know in the comments!

CMAs: Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley & Blake Shelton to Perform

CMAs: Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley & Blake Shelton to Perform

The 2011 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards are still a month-and-a-half away, but the show is already living up to its billing as "country's biggest night." All five artists vying for CMA's highest honor, the entertainer of the year award, will be performing at the Nov. 9 awards ceremony, the Country Music Association announced Tuesday. That means that Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley and Jason Aldean will take the stage to drop some sweet country beats.

Each of the performer-nominees also performed at last year's CMA Awards, and three of them have won the show's top prize before: Urban snagged it in 2005, Swift was victorious in 2009, and Paisley won for the first time ever in 2010 (though he'd been nominted every year since '05).

Nov. 9 will be an especially busy night for Paisley. In addition to performing, he's up for five awards, which ties him with Swift, Shelton and Aldean for the most nods. And, on top of that, he's cohosting the CMAs with erstwhile American Idol Carrie Underwood for the second year running.

Can Paisley score the night's top prize once again? You'll have to tune in to ABC on Nov. 9 to find out. (Click here for a full list of nominees.)

Adele, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber Land New Guinness Records

Rihanna, Lil Wayne, Black Eyed Peas and 'Glee' also get new entries in the 'Guinness Book of World Records.'

Adele has been on a record-setting tear all year and now the British songbird can claim to be a "Guinness Book of World Records" champ. The upcoming 2012 edition of the book reveals that the "Rolling in the Deep" singer is in good company, as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Willow Smith and Justin Bieber also set some high-water marks over the past 12 months.

Adele can count three records, including first female to land two singles and two albums in the U.K. top five simultaneously — which only the Beatles had achieved before in 1963. Her breakthrough second CD, 21, claimed the record as the first album in U.K. chart history to sell 3 million copies in one calendar year.

She also logged the most consecutive weeks with the #1 album in the U.K. for a solo female with 11 weeks at the top — beating a record previously held by Madonna's The Immaculate Collection — and most cumulative weeks with a U.K. #1 for a solo female (18), beating out both Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain, who shared the previous record at 11 weeks.

Lady Gaga's social media predominance was rewarded, landing her the Most Followers on Twitter crown with 11,259,372 as of June 29 (she's currently at 13,469,754). In addition, "Poker Face" was honored for Most Weeks on U.S. Digital Hot Songs chart at 83 weeks. Gaga made the book last year for having the most consecutive weeks on the U.K. chart and being the most searched-for woman on the Internet.

Some other new records:

Justin Bieber: The singer's "Baby" was dubbed the Most Popular Video of Any Kind Online, thanks to 463,820,304 views as of February 16, 2011.

The Black Eyed Peas: The Biggest Selling Download in the U.K. is "I Gotta Feeling," the first-ever track to go over 1 million downloads in England.

J.K. Rowling: The "Harry Potter" author is lauded for being the First Billionaire Author thanks to sales of more than 400 million copies of the books worldwide.

"Glee": The hit show scored the Most Hit Singles in a Calendar Year with 48 making it into the U.K. top 75 in 2011, breaking their previous record of 45 hits in 2010.

Rihanna: First Female to have U.K. #1 singles in five consecutive years (2007-2011), from "Rude Boy" to her most recent, "Only Girl (In the World)." Only Elvis and the Beatles have had more U.K. #1 singles in consecutive years.

Willow Smith: The Youngest Transatlantic Top 20 Artist, thanks to "Whip My Hair" hitting the top 20 when she was only 10 years old.

Lil Wayne: Most U.S. Hot 100 Hits by a Rap Artist with 64 between 1999 and 2010.

U2: Highest Grossing Music Tour for the 360 outing, which by April 2011 had raked in more than $539 million for 110 shows between July 2009 and July 2011.

Robert Plant And Alison Krauss Win Grammy Album Of The Year

Raising Sand, from Led Zeppelin vet and bluegrass superstar, wins five Grammys on Sunday night.
By James Montgomery with MTV News staff

Alison Krauss and Robert Plant accept the award for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards on Sunday

"I'm bewildered," Robert Plant said onstage as he accepted the Grammy Album of the Year award with Alison Krauss on Sunday night. "In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it's a good way to spend a Sunday."

He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because Raising Sand, which won five trophies at Sunday night's show, is in many ways the perfect Grammy album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker's dozen of time-tested standards.

You're probably familiar with Robert Plant from his Led Zeppelin days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett's work on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don't know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she's won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history.

Really, she's the key to Sand's success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music — so much so that they began kicking around the idea of recording an album together. Three years later, Sand was released.

And while Plant possesses the more famous voice, the album's finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she's getting bluesy on Little Milton's "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" or entwining with Plant's husky voice on songs like "Please Read the Letter" and Roly Salley's winsome "Killing the Blues," she more than carries her end of the bargain.

And perhaps that's also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on Sand. His arrangements are sparse — giving the two voices ample room to breathe — yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It's a testament to his work that he's often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project ... and it's certainly justified.

To date, Sand has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and actually earned a Grammy last year — "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.

One expert was surprised not by the album's success, but by the fact that it's actually quite a good album.

"At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. ... Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn't have to be any good, you know?" New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica said. "Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it actually turned out to be a really thoughtful, really good record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys love to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards."

Emmy Awards Winners: Modern Family' Wins Big

Emmy Awards Winners: Modern Family' Wins Big

Television's biggest night might have aired on Fox, but it was ABC's Modern Family that was the evening's biggest winner.

The hilarious family sitcom was an unstoppable force, winning five trophies, including best comedy series and both supporting actor awards (on-screen spouses Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell), as well as writing and directing.

When it came to drama, AMC's Mad Men scored the top prize for the fourth year in a row. Even show creator Matthew Weiner seemed surprised when he accepted the honor. "Oh my goodness!," he said. "I did not think that was gonna to happen."

But four wins in a row was nothing compared to Jon Stewart's record. The host of The Daily Show accepted his ninth consecutive Emmy for best variety series.

CBS took home three out of the four lead actor awards, with Jim Parsons winning his second consecutive award for The Big Bang Theory and Julianna Margulies scoring her own repeat hardware for The Good Wife.

And Mike & Molly star Melissa McCarthy won her first Emmy for best actress in a comedy in one of the night's funniest moments: All six funny ladies nominated in the category walked on stage, as if they were the finalists in a beauty pageant. Standing hand-in-hand, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Martha Plimpton, Edie Falco and Laura Linney giggled and looked ready to cry as McCarthy was bestowed with flowers and tiara along with her Emmy.

"Holy smokes. Wow, it’s my first and best pageant ever," McCarthy told the crowd. "I'm from Plainfield, Illinois, and I'm standing here, and it's kind of amazing."

But the night wasn't just about the TV stars. Film star Guy Pearce gave one of the best acceptance speeches of the night after nabbing his Emmy for supporting actor in a movie or miniseries.

"This was really a delightful experience making Mildred Pierce. I got to have sex with Kate Winslet many, many times," he dead-panned. "So Kate, I share this with you, because you're an extraordinary woman. Thank you for allowing me to  insert myself into your world of Mildred. And to my wife Kate, who had to listen to me talk about that every day when I came home from work. Thank you my darling, and I'm sorry."

But Pearce didn't have to share his Emmy with Winslet for long. Moments later, the star won her own lead actress award for Mildred Pierce.

Other film stars to grab some gold: Peter Dinklage won best supporting actor in a Drama for his riveting performance in HBO's epic Game of Thrones; Maggie Smith won supporting actress in a movie or miniseries for PBS' Downton Abbey; and famed director Martin Scorsese earned his very first Emmy for directing Boardwalk Empire, which he also produces.

And even though she didn't pick up a trophy in her category, the evening's host Jane Lynch still came out on top. The Glee villainess delivered big laughs by poking fun at herself just as much as the other stars.

Stand-up comedian Whitney Cummings is getting her own show on NBC this fall. Like the great stand-up comedian sitcoms "Seinfeld" and "Roseanne," it is simply named "Whitney."

Cummings plays Whitney, a woman in a long term relationship with Alex (Chris D'Elia) and no plans on marriage.

If you live in a big city, you probably see lots billboards stating some of Cummings' comedic observations about relationships. Over the summer, she met with the Television Critics Association to explain her views on humor and sitcoms. The pilot episode has her try to spice up their sex life by playing a slutty nurse in a bedroom fantasy. They can't put that on a billboard. Read more…

Britney Spears may have been looking back on her impressive career during a Jo Calderone-helmed tribute at Sunday night's VMAs, but there's still so much for fans to look forward to. The singer has a lot up her sleeve after taking home the Moonman for Best Pop Video for her "Till the World Ends" clip and the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award -- and she revealed all to MTV News.

There's been some hot debate about what the singer's next Femme Fatale single is going to be, and finally her loyal fans are getting the confirmation they've been waiting for.

"I don't if I'm at liberty to tell," she teased MTV News backstage at the VMAs. "But I will anyways: It's 'Criminal.' "

The slow jam should make for some interesting visual fodder, and Spears told us she knows what the video will look like, but she's going to keep everyone waiting a little longer. "Actually the song, when I first heard it, it's really different and it's not anything I've heard like this before. So I really wanted to deliver this song. I was thinking of a really cool concept for the video just to make it interesting," she said, teasing, "You'll have to see."

She's also set to hit the road again when the Femme Fatale Tour heads to Europe. She'll be joined by Joe Jonas for select dates.

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards have wrapped, but the real action is just getting started! Stick with MTV News for winners, fashion pics, video and behind-the-scenes stories about everything that went down. Visit VMA.MTV.com for the latest.

Justin Bieber Unhurt In Minor Car Accident

Singer surrounded by paparazzi after his Ferrari was dinged.

Just two days after taking home a Moonman at the VMAs, Justin Bieber chalked up another young pop star rite of passage: his first paparazzi-witnessed fender bender.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Bieber was in a minor auto accident on Tuesday in the San Fernando Valley, caused by a Honda Civic that collided with his black Ferrari. "No one was injured and there was no damage to either vehicle," the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement.   Of course, when LAPD officers rolled up, they were the second ones to arrive on the scene, trailing a horde of photographers who were eagerly snapping away at the 17-year-old singer, who was driving the car. The accident reportedly occurred in an underground parking structure, when the Civic driver attempted to drive around Bieber's luxury ride and its front side clipped the left rear side of the "Baby" singer's car, according to E! Online.

Check out backstage photos of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez at the VMAs.

There was an unidentified passenger in the car believed to be Bieber's assistant. No police report was taken, as there was no visible damage to either car.

The crash came less than 48 hours after Bieber scooped up the Best Male Video award at the VMAs for his "U Smile" video, and surprised viewers by showing up to the big show toting his snake ("Johnson"), not to mention planting a kiss on the cheek of his lady love, VMA pre-show host Selena Gomez.

Britney Spears' Mysterious 'Criminal' Art Hits Net

Spears set to shoot clip for new single in London.

Britney Spears recently shared that she plans to shoot her video for "Criminal" in England, and now fans are not only learning more details about her plans to promote the single but also getting a look at the cover artwork.

The turquoise-and-red single art for the song — which is now all over the blogs — features a serious-looking Spears looking out into the distance, her wavy hair falling on her bare back. A mysterious hooded man is also featured on the cover. A rep confirmed to MTV News on Wednesday (September 14) that the art is official.

Spears has promised that the video will be eye-catching. "Actually, the song, when I first heard it, it's really different and it's not anything I've heard like this before. So I really wanted to deliver this song. I was thinking of a really cool concept for the video just to make it interesting," she told us last month. "You'll have to see."

As for the location of the shoot, Spears gushed about it on Twitter. "So excited to stop over in the UK before I start my European tour in a few weeks," she wrote. "Can't wait! I LOVE London, it's like my second home. Decided to shoot the 'Criminal' video in the streets of merry old England when I get there."

As Spears gears up for the release of "Criminal," she's also got a few other projects in the works, including a remix album due out next month and a concert special set to air on Epix. The just-released trailer for the special, set to air in November, uses concert footage from her Femme Fatale Tour, which Brit is gearing up to take to Europe later this month.

What are you hoping to see from Brit's "Criminal" video? Tell us in the comments!

Katy Perry Closing In On Michael Jackson's #1 Singles Record

If 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)' tops Hot 100, Perry's Teenage Dream will tie MJ's mark of five #1s from a single album.
By James Montgomery

Katy Perry's unstoppable Teenage Dream album continues to churn out hits ... and now, it might just make history too.

If Dream's fifth single, the just-released "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)", continues its climb to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 (it currently sits at #4, jumping 27 spots from last week), Perry will not only become the first female artist to ever have five #1 songs off one album, she'll be the first artist of any gender to accomplish the feat since Michael Jackson had five chart-topping singles off his Bad album in 1987 and 1988.

Perry's previous #1s from the Dream album are, of course, "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework" and "E.T." Jackson's five #1s from the Bad album are "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Man in the Mirror" and "Dirty Diana."

Perry has already shattered the Hot 100 record for most consecutive weeks with a single inside the Top 10 (48, a number previously held by Swedish popmeisters Ace of Base), then kept that momentum going by spending an entire year in the chart's upper echelon. More incredibly, that streak is still active, as two of Perry's singles — "T.G.I.F." and "E.T." — sit at numbers 4 and 5, respectively.

What's more, "T.G.I.F" currently sits atop the Billboard Digital Songs chart, and may soon be her sixth single to pass the 4 million mark in digital sales, joining "E.T.," "California Gurls," "Firework," and from her One of the Boys album, "Hot N Cold" and "I Kissed a Girl." No other artist has even had four songs pass the 4 million download mark ... Perry's closest competitors in that regard are Lady Gaga and Rihanna, both of whom have had three 4 million-sellers.

What do you think of Katy Perry's chart streak? Sound off in the comments!
